This illustration was originally created for a limited edition comic series, “Batman Black and White Vol. 2.” In the story called “Case Study,” the reader is invited to contemplate whether or not the Joker is truly insane. Exquisitely rendered in shades of gray, black, and white, Ross depicts how one Gotham City criminal is transformed into the Joker — a merciless monster and Batman’s psychotic arch enemy.
